In the Grey

One from several of my paintings on the topic "moods through color symbolism"..something i did for my alevels ...for this topic i chose models who i was actually familiar with and in some way was related to.
Each painting signifies a particular color and its corresponding mood and the mood can be either negative or positive..this painting for e.g. is in shades of grey, white and black and is mostly focusing on the negative symbolism of the colors. The color grey signifies sadness & boredom, and is actually the most dominant throughout the painting. The painting shows an old man puffing a cigarette, lost in thoughts, in solitude and with watery eyes.
The model was actually my guard who had quiet a sad life story...that was what i actually tried capturing..the helplessness and misery...black signifies death (the cigarette in particular) and old age as well as remorse. I however, wanted to cover a bit of the postive aspects of the colors as well e.g. security, reliability and modesty which are fullfilled by the model itself.
